MY studio

this is my cute studio in my garden

I feel very lucky to have a little space to call mine.

For many years I worked at my dinning room table or in my bedroom when I was flatting. I know what it’s like to have to tidy up your things when you’re halfway through a project & to stack it all up & put it all away again. It can really stop your creative flow & productivity.

It’s funny as when we moved into this house I set up my desk & craft cupboard in the studio but it took me a long time to adjust to working out here….maybe it was loneliness or wanting to be closer to my family…

After having my first baby is when I started drawing again for a creative outlet while on maternity leave from my busy design job at the time. I started buying more art supplies which got me excited about drawing again & I set up my studio as a feel good space.

I did need to be close to my baby so working from the dinning room table continued but I had a home for everything to live which was amazing!

I brought my first iPad in early 2019.

it was a game changer!

Like a HUGE game changer. It was everything I had always needed but didn’t know I needed my whole career. It changed the way I worked in such a big way. I could now draw anywhere & found myself at night on the couch drawing away.

As I continued to draw & create, falling more & more in love with my iPad and the doors it was opening up for me I continued on this really organic journey of just creating and having fun. Slowly finding my way back to things I loved about my job/career I had chosen so many years ago.

Out of this I ‘slowly’ started to lay the foundations for Hufton Studio to come alive to what it is today.

I tried to do at least one small thing a day

I focused on goal setting & breaking the big goals up into small doable bite size pieces for me to achieve more easily with being a new mum at the same time. It was hard work and the juggle of family & work is still hard at times but I LOVE what I am doing and creating.

I have slowly made my studio into a space I love and now I use my studio nearly everyday & I love the alone time. I think that is something I have needed more of since becoming a mum. I need space to myself as I give so much of myself to my wee family that the quiet studio time is needed for me to recharge…it has become my happy space.

I do feel very lucky and appreciate my workspace even more since we have been going through lockdowns. It has been my saving grace to have a space that is mine and I can leave work out ready to come back to when needed.

I do get in a mess from time to time & then I do a clean up & declutter my desk to start a fresh, this is normally when I need to start something new. I find it good to feel like things are fresh & ready to create new ideas if I do a spring clean.

I’m going to share more of my workspace going forward on my Instagram, I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak today.
